Shackles And How To Secure Critical Connections

Use rigging line as safety over critical connections. Some of the connection points that take a lot of load on your boat will be held together with rather small shackles. Typical examples are the shackles that connect the main sheet to the traveller, or the shackles that hold the kicker to the deck. A couple loops of sailing line around those connection points will buy yourself a bit more time in case one of those shackles decides to kick the bucket.
